1 life – 7  identities

Childhood: Monika Stahl, who is now non-denominational, was born in Vienna and grew up as a strict Catholic in a small town in Lower Austria.

Family life: 22 years of marriage and two children shaped this period of her life.

Professional life: She started a technically oriented career as a programmer and was IT manager in a pharmaceutical production company for 25 years.

Life of adventure: She acquired her pilot’s license 29 years ago, got a seaplane rating in Canada and trained as a bush pilot in Africa; her passion was flying. She also rode her Harley Davidson across Europe and the USA. That’s when her

life as an artist began: During her months-long stays in NYC to study art, she became aware of her hedonistic orientation and began to counteract it with artistic means. She is now an internationally awarded professional artist. Influenced by Erich Fromm’s “To Have or to Be” she denounces greed and excessive consumption. Since 2017 she has been deepening her world view as

Philosopher: Four years of studying at the University of Vienna at the Institute of Philosophy gave her insights into the exclusion of women from business, science and politics.

Feminist artist life: Every year at the time of the global campaign 16 Days against Violence against Women, she organized events in her hometown of Klosterneuburg. Her art installations at the town hall, such as the “Flower against Violence” and “The Women’s Backpack” serve to make this important topic visible.

Using MONEYART, where real money is part of the artwork, the monetary value is transformed into a material value and power and greed are exposed to criticism.

1 Erich Fromm (*March 23, 1900 in Frankfurt / Main – Germany; † March 18, 1980 in Muralto, Tessin) was a german- us-american psycho-analyst, philosopher and social psychologic. In his exposition the existence of having is the reason for the bad of the present civilisation. The Being is however the opportunity of a fulfilled – and not estranged live. The society of nowadays is established by the modus of having or the willing to have: Its behaviour is dedicated by the character of the private possessions… Contrary to it the conditions for the modus of being are above all the independence, freedom and critical ratio. The human being, who is not dedicated anymore of having, finds to its roots, creates inner activity, which is not to be confused with business activity or bustle. It can use its human capabilities really in a productive way. For this human being, the possession is nothing, love is however about all.
